Personal

In addition to cycling and playing tennis, I like to read extensively. As a former barista, I’ve developed the habit of trying different cafes around New Orleans. As a traveler, I’ve made a goal of visiting coffee shops in all 50 states.

overview

I enjoy working with our employer-clients to help ensure they’re complying with the law, treating everyone fairly, and correcting their course if necessary to prevent legal risk.

Practice Overview

Zoie Spears assists clients with a range of labor and employment matters, including those involving Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, issues before the EEOC, arbitrations, employee contracts and employment discrimination charges involving gender, disability, race and age.

Through her judicial internships for a judge and a magistrate with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, Zoie gained valuable insight into both state and federal law and saw first-hand how the two systems remain distinct and yet work in tandem. She also received an in-depth education on the judicial decision-making process and learned how to target and define arguments effectively for each forum.

Zoie’s excellent communication skills include a talent for delving deep into legal research, writing compelling memos, and crafting or strengthening persuasive arguments. Her previous positions include law school teaching assistant, student practitioner at Loyola’s Children’s Rights Clinic, judicial intern, law firm summer associate, volunteer for a nonprofit serving New Orleans’ unhoused, and coffee shop barista. These diverse roles engendered Zoie’s comfort in talking to and connecting with people with different backgrounds and perspectives as well as bolstered her ability to make others feel at ease. Additionally, she knows how to tailor her communication methods to clients’ specific preferences.

With an appreciation for the constantly evolving nature of labor and employment law, Zoie embraces the new legal challenges she encounters daily. Taking an enthusiastic and informed approach to each unique legal scenario that comes her way, she finds great satisfaction in helping form optimal answers and solutions to clients’ questions and problems.
