overview

Ms. Carter, a native of San Francisco, has 24 years of experience advising clients on labor and employment law. Some of her areas of focus include employee status and classification, use of independent contractors, wage and hour issues, discrimination and harassment laws, disability accommodations, and other HR matters such as assisting with employment agreements and handbooks, crafting employment policies and best practices, and explaining the different and overlapping employee leave laws and how they interact with each other.

In addition to helping clients stay out of trouble, Ms. Carter has handled numerous labor and employment law disputes in various forums, from state and Federal courts to arbitration to administrative proceedings, as well as civil appeals, and enjoys performing legal research and looking for novel ideas and approaches to the problems that arise for her clients. She also acts as in-house counsel for a telecommunications consulting firm, providing advice on all aspects of the business, including contract drafting and review and litigation matters. Michelle always strives to provide the best representation possible, and focuses on not only the legal aspects of the matters she handles, but also on the practical and real-world aspects and possible repercussions.
