overview

"My deep experience in a wide range of labor and employment areas makes me a bit of a “one-stop-shop” attorney who can very competently handle almost any concern or conflict a client presents. I find it truly gratifying to solve their problems and help them achieve their aims, whether that means resolving a simple question about payroll or prevailing in complex, high-stakes litigation."

Practice Overview

Bringing expertise developed over four decades to his national labor and employment law practice, Charles Hollis defends employers in legal disputes and advises them on worker-related issues, questions, and policies. Charlie serves clients in a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, health care, drug-testing laboratories, forest products, food processing, electric utilities, warehousing, chemicals, and retailing. He approaches all situations with enthusiasm and a determination to secure optimal resolutions.

As one of the few currently practicing attorneys who’s well-versed in traditional labor law, as well as in employment law, Charlie represents clients in National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) elections and unfair labor practice trials and other labor board work. He also provides guidance in contract negotiations, arbitrations, wage-and-hour issues, and other employment matters before the federal and state departments of labor.

On the employment litigation side, Charlie advocates in discrimination cases and other litigation before state and federal courts. He also represents employers in matters before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and other regulatory agencies.

A firm believer in the adage “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” Charlie ensures that his clients are kept informed of all relevant changes to the regulatory landscape. He also counsels them on how best to take the necessary steps to comply with requirements and thus avoid problems in the future. He advises executives and trains supervisory personnel in effective methods of human resources administration and personnel supervision, as well as in practical procedures for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN), Title VII, and other management restrictive regulations. Charlie also helps companies navigate current challenges such as the labor shortage and increased enforcement activity of the NRLB.

Charlie’s genial nature and belief that everyone deserves respect enables him to connect and get along with people of all backgrounds and life circumstances. With a penchant for thoroughness and preparation, he says he “gets ready for litigation the way I’d want someone to do for me if I were the client.” Familiarizing himself with every detail of a case as soon as possible, Charlie enters each trial, negotiation, and mediation with the confidence of knowing he’s crossed all t’s and dotted all i’s. His priority at all times is to clear a smooth path for his clients to achieve their goals as quickly and cost-effectively as possible.
